Ryan Smyth

Ryan is an important player for the Battle of Western Canada, because between the two contributors, we will have to see Ryan several times this season. In Ryan's last season with the oilers, he had 31 goals in 53 games before being traded to the Islanders. In the season before, he had 36 goals in 75 games.

Last season however, he only had 14 goals in 55 games (i guess he was injured). So far this season, he has 4 goals in 8 games (not including the shootout winner he had to propel the avs over the sabres the other day.) This means smitty is on pace for 41 goals this season. It would be interesting to note the line pairings. Hal, if you listen to the game, can you figure out who Smyth's linemates are tonight?

Interesting note, BErtuzzi has still not yet notched an assist this season. He has scored 6 goals in 8 games, but has not assisted yet. Last year with Anaheim, it was no until december 29th that he scored his 6th goal. If Bertuzzi gets a hatrick tonight, he will again be on pace for 50 goals in 50 games.
