Edmonton Screwed?

Over the summer, Edmonton had a very difficult time signing bigname free agents. Michael Nylander even took a pay cut so he didn't have to play in Edmonton. As a last resort, K Lowe started signing RFA , something once thought forbidden between NHL GMs.

Could this be a sign of the doom of Edmonton? What if University of Alberta has a shortage of professors and tries to get other proffs from different cities to come. Will they reject the offer just like the NHL? Will they take pay cuts to relocate to other cities, as long as they aren't in Edmonton? Will the U of A have to sign professors to massive salaries just to get them to teach here and then having a smaller budget to work with? Will the City of Edmonton have to make another promotional videotape to send to professors showing the glory of Edmonton? Who knows.
